According to an article by the reporter Yigal Hai that was published on the eve of Rosh Hashanah 577 in the newspaperdepartment storeHaifa Municipality is planning the "refreshment" of the Bat Galim Promenade.
The "brilliant" idea is to place a "wooden deck" in the water adjacent (to the north) to the rocks of the promenade along the entire length.
In addition to building along the section between the casino and Yuteva 3 wooden or rock piers Perpendicular to the boardwalk line and this so that people can "take pictures" according to the city engineer Architect Wetterman.
A big disaster for surfers. Death to the best casino spot in Israel. Death to the wind surfing the waves.
Has the mayor not yet realized that he has a rare resource and asset that should be used as a surfing site?
Why spend money on "refreshing" the boardwalk when you can use these funds to develop a boardwalk along the church beach?
Is it about "dreaming" or cruelty?
There are many more questions that can be asked and the unclear answers are in the hands of Mr. Yona Yahav.
The official response of the surfers is given below:
On the eve of Rosh Hashanah 577 an article was published in the Kalvo newspaper describing a new plan by the Municipality of Haifa to "refresh" Bat Galim Promenade. The surfing public in Israel was horrified to discover in the plan the ideas of drying the sea, building piers into the sea and placing other foreign elements such as wooden surfaces in the water.
It is very important to note that the stretch of beach between the Yutava restaurant and the abandoned casino building has rare characteristics for surfing the waves. This is due to the structure of the bay and especially due to the fact that the land route of this beach is a natural reef.
reef break Wave breaking over a reef is rare in Israel and is called in the professional language
Breaking reef produces perfect waves like in other places in the world such as Hawaii and Australia.
Among surfers in Israel, this strip is considered a pilgrimage center and every year surfing competitions are held there.
The boardwalk in its current form is now also an attraction for travelers watching the colorful surfing activity up close.
see attached pictures))
It is very surprising to see how the municipality of Haifa regularly and blatantly ignores for years the existence of the property and the rare resource - the Bat Galim beach strip and the surfing activity there. In other countries, special conservation laws are defined for surfing beaches and the authorities encourage development and tourism of the area in the spirit of surfing activity. In Haifa the opposite situation exists
Every few years surfers are forced to deal with plans to destroy the line and the beach and eliminate the surfing industry.
Apart from that, it is very useful to remember that the beach strip in Bat Galim was "injured" during the last decades by the construction of unnecessary breakwaters and spurs. Starting at the tongue of the island in front of Elisha Alley, through the separation of the bathing beach with a spur to the religious beach (which is now abandoned) until the drying of the sea for the purpose of building a ramp in front of the Rambam Hospital.
These invasive actions have already caused severe damage and especially the problem of algae accumulation in the boardwalk area.
The reef in front of the boardwalk, which contains extensive plant and animal activity, is also expected to be buried under the planned piers and breakwaters.
Perhaps it is appropriate to examine today as a refresher the removal of some of these obstacles and not the placing of new obstacles in the sea.
The surfing public will be very happy to cooperate with the Haifa municipality in developing the beach strip in the spirit of surfing.
This public will express a very strong opposition, as it has expressed in the past, if the municipality decides to promote plans for drying or placing any obstacle in the sea.

Will the negro be his skin and the tiger his friends?
I hope that there will be a public participation procedure and not again a presentation of a finished plan to do as if.
The very fact that it is already presented as a matter of course shows a problematic mindset. First they run to the media before holding a conference with the public
with residents and with proper planning. The main thing is to push more information at any cost, why does everything have to be crooked? Post announcements about sharing process
The public to Bat Galim Promenade. Have a conference with working teams of residents and surfers. And then you will make a big news in the media about the renovation of the boardwalk.
Oh oh, what a lack of understanding of planners.
And it seems as if our mayor wants to once again enter into conflicts with the residents of the neighborhood.
As if the marina nightmare wasn't enough for him.

If there is no mind there are no worries.
