This week, the Yiftah Garden was inaugurated in Kabbir, in memory of the late Lieutenant Yiftah Schreier, who died in the Second Lebanon War. The playground is located on Ra'anan Street, near the house of the Shreier family, above Nahal Shih. The garden was renovated through donations of about NIS 800 that Yeftah's father, Ami, was able to raise Shreyer. Yeftah Shreyer used to play basketball instead since his childhood until his fall.
In light of the struggle against the Haifa municipality, which demanded that the family finance the renovation of the garden, his sister Yonat and his twin brother Jordan called on the establishment and the municipalities to ensure a proper commemoration of the war dead, without the families having to collect donations. "Yeftah was not killed on a trip after the army or in a car accident. He and many others fell defending the homeland and deserve to be commemorated." This is the only playground in this part of Kabir, which was empty for several years after the municipality removed the facilities from all the playgrounds in the city.
Yeftah was supposed to celebrate his 25th birthday with his twin brother tomorrow. His sister blew up a bunch of balloons in honor of the birthday and in the hope for the release of the kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit. The ceremony was attended by Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, former Knesset Member and Deputy Minister of Defense during the war Efraim Senna, the mayor and dignitaries of the Ahmadiyya community from Kabvir.
