In August, a number of demonstrations were held by residents and parents from the Hufit school, who objected to the integration of students from the bilingual track in the school. Despite the concerns, the school year started without incident and the children were warmly welcomed at school.
The school year started as a series at the Hufit school in the Shaar Aliya neighborhood. The children from the bilingual track joined the school and despite the fear created by the protests of residents in the neighborhood and parents who opposed the integration of the bilingual track, the children were received at the school in a nice and respectable way. As I recall, until this year students from the bilingual track studied at the Ahmadiyya school, but this year there was not enough space in the school and therefore, the municipality had to find another host school.

The school year started in an excellent and exciting way. The bilingual parents are very optimistic about the future. A good word goes to the principal of the school, Ziva Talvi Salomon, and the director of the bilingual track, Iris Klein, and the educational teams, for putting in a lot of effort during the holidays, to enable the start of the school year in a peaceful and safe manner, with most of the logistics behind us. More than that - the ability of Ziva and Iris to bridge and compromise between the group of parents from the coast and the group of parents of the bilingual, inspires a lot of confidence and optimism for the future. They proved and are proving what educational leadership is. We also thank the parents and children at the beach for their blessing of hosting us at the school temporarily until we move on to a permanent structure and the beautiful welcome our children received at the school.
It should be noted that in August at the same time as the demonstrations, there were parents from the school who claimed that most of the parents at the Hufit school were not opposed to the integration of the bilingual track. In view of the reception the children received from the bilingual track, it seems that those parents were right.

The bilingual track is a unique track that is suitable for the city of Haifa, which is a mixed city, where there is a good and special relationship between Jews and Arabs. The track was established as a growing track at the Ahmadiyya school in the Kabvir neighborhood (a growing track - adds a class every year). The Ahmadiyya school suffered from overcrowding and the building could not accommodate the additional classrooms. As soon as we took office, within the new municipality, we received a request from representatives of parents who accepted that their children were in poor conditions and therefore we decided to embark on a joint process with the Ministry of Education and the "Yad Yad" association for a process of taking care of the needs of this unique institution. Several alternatives were examined and the most suitable, in the opinion of the professional staff, was at the "Hofit" school in Shaar Aliya, because the school's principal had integrated Arab students and teachers years before with great success at Beit Sifra.
The Beach School remains as it is, with its uniqueness and in addition, it will host the bilingual track, which is run as a separate unit, with a separate principal, a separate agenda and a separate curriculum. Hofit was chosen to provide a solution because of the location, the administration, the infrastructure, the availability and the ability to lead a temporary process at the end of which the students of the bilingual school will receive a completely separate campus of their own.
We believe and hope that a school with the "bilingual" route will be a positive example and model for the whole country.
