The municipality of Haifa has decided to postpone the traditional Haifa race, for the 22nd year. The Office of the Director General of the Municipality issued a notice today at noon (Sunday 30/06/2019) about the postponement of the race in the following language:
The administration of the Haifa municipality decided to postpone the Haifa race at this stage. Disturbing figures have been brought to our attention regarding the expenses and costs of the Haifa race, which we request to be examined in depth and with all due seriousness. Therefore, the race will not take place on the scheduled date. After we define a new outline for financing the event, we will decide on its continued existence.
The municipal administration notes that after the meeting that took place on Tuesday 18/06/19 in the CEO's office, in which the Sports Authority staff, the treasurers, the secretary of the city of Haifa, the legal advisor and others were present, a problem arose of not budgeting support costs for the security and guarding of sports teams at the games and competitions. Therefore, Mr. Nachshon Tsuk, the holder of the sports portfolio, decided to allocate the missing amount to this issue, about NIS 620, from the Haifa racing budget.
The feeling is very difficult. I would believe the reason for the postponement of the Haifa race, which was supposed to take place on the first Friday of November, i.e. tomorrow, but when in addition to the "Haifa race" the "step race" is also canceled, a great race that characterizes the city of Haifa, and also "go for a run" which is an event that is all about donation For the sake of the community and which does not block major routes, i.e. its cost and impact on the environment is not significant, the reason for these postponements is questionable. Indeed, unfortunately, it seems that there is an attempt here to cancel the sporting and unifying events that are so important, especially in Haifa, which were practiced by the previous mayors, especially Mr. Yona Yahav. The feeling is indeed very difficult.
There is also an initiative to encourage the tourists who come by ship to go to Tel Aviv and the kerios. To date, I have counted and photographed 55 signs pointing to Tel Aviv in Haifa, in the city of Carmel in Hadar.
The Haifa race was postponed, the stair race was canceled, the youth city was canceled, the capital city was canceled. Guess what wasn't canceled? The property tax increase, what's going on with this mayor? Want to further drive the young people away from the city?
