Haifa Port Company summarizes an all-time record year: Haifa Port continues to be the leading and largest port in Israel in terms of the amount of cargo that passes through it annually with a new record of 26,264,000 tons - an increase of 1% compared to last year.
Despite the difficulty and the struggle with the new reform at Haifa Port, this year was undoubtedly a year for containers at Haifa Port: in 2018, an increase of 15% was achieved at Haifa Port in full containers in the import and export of Israeli trade compared to last year
2017: 918,000 containers in TEU terms (the size of a standard 20-foot container) in 2018 compared to 799,000 containers in 2017.
Also in the total number of containers (a figure that also includes the transportation of empty containers and international containers in Shitoon) an increase of 9% was recorded:
A total of 2018 containers (TEU) were unloaded in 1,464,000 at Haifa Port compared to 1,340,000 in 2017.
The increase in containers was achieved thanks to the excellent service and the industrial quiet that prevailed in Haifa port during the past year. As the president of the Israel Chamber of Shipping said this month Dr. Yoram Zeba During the signing ceremony of the reform agreement:
"The Port of Haifa consistently maintains better service indicators than its competitors. The competition benefits it. I thank the port for serving this year also goods destined for its competitors. It was crowded and challenging and it is important that we appreciate the solutions provided and that the Port of Haifa is so good at them."
It was also a record year for transporting import and export cargo using Israel Railways cargo services.
221,000 containers were transported to and from the port in 2018 using rail cars, an increase of 13% compared to 2017 (195 thousand), and 32% compared to 2016 (167 thousand).
